Catalyst Science Discovery Centre & Museum – Chemistry at Work Week 2026
Bitrez were delighted to once again support and contribute to the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum’s Chemistry at Work Week 2026, marking our third consecutive year of involvement in this fantastic initiative. The event continues to provide students with the opportunity to meet and engage with a range of local scientific industries, gaining valuable insight into potential career paths, daily working life in science-based roles, and the routes available to enter the sector.
As in previous years, Dr Thomas Mangnall and Wendy Howarth led an engaging and interactive session, demonstrating the synthesis of Nylon from monomer feedstock. The ever-popular “Nylon rope trick” was brought to life for multiple student groups, alongside clear and accessible explanations of polymer chemistry and its real-world applications.
Under the careful supervision of Wendy and Tom, the students donned their PPE and, with supportive guidance, successfully carried out the experiment themselves. Their enthusiasm and hands-on participation created an engaging and memorable learning experience—one that we are sure would have made Wallace Carothers proud.
The event was once again a great success, and we are proud to continue supporting such an inspiring programme. We hope that all students and staff who attended found the experience as enjoyable and rewarding as we did, and we look forward to returning in future years.
